My friend had layed down his to clear the trap that had been emptied for us. The bear came out of the brush and charged my partner, I was about 20 ft off to the left of him, he was closer to the bearwith 2 rounds from the Marlin. In AK while helping a friend on his trap line I dropped a charging black bear. I have a friend that hot loads me a lot of rounds that have been clocked at fps. Something disturbs my sleep and demands deadly attention, 6 rounds of the mag corbons should stop it. When I go to sleep I have my ruger security six loaded with the corbons and its laying on my chest.

I also carry for when the back hairs start to tingle and stand up Corbon g jacketed soft points. Everything you said above is true, a VERY capable, versatile gun that is easy to feed, easy to shoot and easy to carry.

Still, with the Ruger Police Six, it's my 'go-to' rifle for all things survival, along with a very portable Lee Loader and box or two of primers. As mentioned, rifles of this kind are also available in. Great little deer rifle but quite under-powered for more than deer, maybe a small black bear with proper shot placement: i. Now I've got the Marlin back, chambered in. My wife compared the winchester to the Marlin. Thanks to the Cowboy Shooting sport, these little levers are becoming quite prolific and popular. We recently bought a Marlin in It feels a bit stiff tooand will probably benifit from some action work. We have a Winchester Trapper that has had about rounds through it. Hopefully I'll become more pleased with it over time. I didn't want to have to return this gun hassle. The polishing part seems easy, but removing coils from the spring I'm not sure I can do without assistance. I haven't disassembled this gun, and that feels a little intimidating, but I'll try to find some good guides on it. If this hump is worked down, more polished than filed, the action is smoother and there are no ignition problems. The bolt rides over the high spot and the hammer initialy goes lower than necassary. If you watch the bolt as it travels backlward and cocks the hammer there is a high spot on the hammer. I have had a legacy for 2 years and they get better with age and lots of use. The 94's are really stiff to work out of the box.

I read that the Winchester Model 94 actions work best when chambered forbut it's hard to get access to any levers here in Ohio. If the action on the Winchester will smooth up over time, that would be fine. I'm starting to think I'd be better off returning this and getting a Marlin chambered for. I'm already going to have to put a ghost ring sight on it to hit anything past 25 yards my eyesight isn't what it used to beso the price keeps on climbing. If the action slows me down, it seems pointless. Is there anything I can do about this? Can a gunsmith alter the hammer tension to make it easier for the bolt to cock it? I bought this gun to be able to fire it as fast as I could work the action. If I cock the hammer and then work the action it cycles fine, of course. I nearly knock the gun from my shoulder every time I eject a shell because of the effort required. I suspect most of the difference comes from the fact that the Marlin has a longer lever handle thus more 'leverage'and a larger bolt to work the hammer. But the Winchester is much harder once the bolt hits the hammer.
